WELCOME TO LOTUS ACUPUNCTURE
WHAT IS ACUPUNCTURE?
Acupuncture is an ancient system of healing developed
over thousands of years as part of the traditional medicine
of China, Japan and other eastern countries.
The roots of Acupuncture formed approximately 3,000
years ago with the discovery of how the stimulaion of
different parts of the skin effected the functioning
of certain organs in the body.
It has evolved into a system of medicine that restores
and maintains health by the insertion of fine needles
into acupuncture points just beneath the body surface.
These points are in very specific locations and lie
on channels of energy (known as meridian lines.)
Acupuncture is becoming steadily more popular in the
West with orthodox medical practitioners. There is also
an increasing interest from the general public, seeking
a more holistic approach to their health.
ACUPRESSURE MASSAGE AND HERBS
Herbs and massage are additional skills which are complimentart
to acupuncture. Sometimes it is beneficial to massage
an area first, partly for relaxation and partly as a
tool for diagnosis. To massage a sprained ankle for example
enables me to feel where the tension is and often a
tight area will change colour slightly on palpation.
Generally speaking herbal medicine works alongside acupuncture
by nourishing any deficiencies in your body. For example
acupuncture works mainly by movement and release (good
for pain, stress, and anything in excess) whereby herbs
help to build up energy and stamina if you are tired
or depleted. With those of you familiar with the terms
"yin and yang" the herbs represent the yin
(nourishing and nurturing) and the acupuncture the "yang"
(moving and releasing) of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
